4 /11/2011 News from Elder Rogers Neighborhood

Monday is usually a bad day when it comes to the average people.  First day of the week back to work, putting your shoulder to the grind and all....
but its opposite around the Rogers household.  Actually it is one of our favorite days.
It's email day.
News from Elder Rogers Neighborhood:
Elder Rogers:  I am doing good! just got over being sick. We went to a dinner at a member's home and i got a stomach bug. the house isn't ever clean. and i dont mean cluttered... i mean clean, like filth.... but i am doing better now.  Mom:  I'm trying so very HARD not to let my imagination get the best of me.....
Elder Rogers:  So i have a new companion.... long story but Elder Beus got emergency transfered..... My new companion's name is Elder Herron (hair-in) he is as green as a spring willow branch. So i am "Step-Training" him. (that means this is his second transfer) He is..... a sweet kid and really wants to be a missionary. He is from "The Factory" can you guess where that is??? It means Utah the members say that Utah produced missionaries so the named it the factory. I guess Deep Creek is one of the hardest areas to work in because it is so unpredictable. I had no idea. I went up to Richmond again last week to talk with President about Elder Beus and to give him a blessing for his Stuttering. And while i was up there he said he was going to get transfered. So now i am with a new Comp in a dead area trying to rebuild it. Pres. said to act like you are opening a new area.... That means a whole lot of work ahead of me. (With a Greenie non the less)  Mom:  Wow, Koltn out only out 3 mos himself and a trainer?  Good Job Bud!! You CAN do it!
Elder Rogers:  So i got in my second bike wreck yesterday night. It was Crazy. This guy was stopped at a stop sign so i checked to make sure he wasn't going and then crossed the street. Well just so happens that he decided to go. WHAM hahaha i went flying and got some small scrapes and i hurt my broken arm a little i was afraid i messed it up but it felt better this morning. All my joints are super stiff today. Bike was ok. Just lost my chain. So the guy gets out of his car, and he was from Iran.... He said " I so srry, I so srry". Then he ran out and gave me a hug! haha i was ok so i talked to him a little and told him i was ok and everything was ok. I Gave him a pass along card and got his number. Hopefully i will get a teaching opportunity out of it!
Mom:...... crazy is not the word I would use to describe a bicycle/car accident~!  again, trying very hard not to let my imagination get the best of me.  I am sure that Heavenly father was watching over our boy-blessing from Heaven that he wasn't hurt!
Elder Rogers  Oh.... Something else that is crazy out here. I will make sure i get a picture. There is so much pollen in the air from the trees and flowers that every night the cars (well everything really) gets a bright yellow dusting. yep you can actually see it all over stuff. It's funny too because It seems like everyone out here has allergies. And everyone has tears in there eyes and snot coming out of there nose! hahaha I am sure glad i am a Rogers. None of that for me. Everyone askes me how it is  possible not to have allergies.... I just tell tham they dont come from a STRONG blood line like the Rogers.
I love you all. And miss you so much. I have a lot of pressure right now
Mom:  This is not something a mom likes to hear, but I know our Koltn and know he works his best under pressure.  I think pressure makes him excel.  So along with a little concern, I am confident he will be just fine.
so I will try to email and write the best i can. I love you all: MOM, DAD, GRANDMA, GRANDPA, KISHA DAN, LINCOLIN,OWEN, KLETE, TATUM, WYATT, HUDDSON? (THATS HIS NAME RIGHT) KELSEY, BEAU, ACEY, AND THE UNBORN ONE AND ALL THE EXTENDED FAMILY.
I send my prayers and to you all and hope you all are doing good.
PS. how is work going for everyone. I have been praying for work for ya'll.
PSS no letter from GrPa and GrMa
PSSS? haha Tell Klete down here they say
"CHIGGEN" just like he sais chicken

3/28/2011 "Chesapeake March Madness"

While we enjoy the AZ cool nights in the 59°'s and the days in the 80°'s,
our favorite missionary is enjoying rain, snow, cold, cloudy 36° degrees days
as he said:
THAT'S RIGHT!!!  JUST ABOVE FREEZING!
"Chesapeake March Madness".....what is this strange pneumonon?
I didn't have a zone conference-- last week i went to a zone P-Day. Totally different. the zone just got together and had a B-Ball tournament. The "Chesapeake March Madness" as it were. Any who... we just had a big p-day and a bunch of Elders came.
Leadership training.... (for a greenie?--are they prepping him for something??)
This Last Week i did go to a Leadership Training Meeting. I went up to Richmond for 5 days! I was learning and taking notes from morning until 5:30 at night..... It was Rough. I felt super out of place at the beginning because everyone else was a District or Zone leader.... It was awesome though. I learned so much that my head is still aching. Pres. Perry and the Assistants gave "trainings" to us about different topics. I cant believe how much He knows about the gospel. (P.S. i wasn't done at 5:30 when we were done there we went out tracting in the local areas..... Ya I was TIRED. The area we were tracting in has the most hills. My legs about gave out each night i was done. But it was good) By the way, things are backwards out here. The days seem like weeks and the weeks seem like days. I don't know but i guess this is how time passes on a mission. It gets me all confused on the date all the time.
Then theres a little mention of just about lots of peeps, and a missionary thank you.....
Yes I know who Sis Meyer  is.(not spelled right) she was a teacher at Franklin when i went to elementary school. She had sent me 2 letters so i made sure to thanked her. She is so kind! No letter from Grandma or Grandpa..... Tell them both i love and miss them  and they are in my prayers. I still haven't received an update on the whole G'Pa hospital thing. Was he ok this time or what? So Hudson is the new one... He is a cutie! Tell Them to show him pictures of me so i wont be a stranger when i get back. Thanks for the package! Everyone loved the ties and we loved the goodies! And The conference cd's were awesome.
REQUESTS??:
Requests??.... i have none, well maybe Lots of love -- i don't know if you guys can do that it is a pretty tall order. I am just doing so doing good I don't need much, but if anything comes up i'll let you know.
Love you all and hope your doing good.
Signing off from good ol' Deep Creek

♥♥♥ of Pictures!

Even though these are a little old (from the MTC)
an old picture is better than no pictures right?
Hum... but what about when they are in an envelope
specifically addressed to "JOHN ROGERS!!!"
you do detect a little {{{{ jealousy}}}}  YES!!!
ELDER KING (aka Dallin) and ELDER ROGERS AT THE MTC.
ELDER LOGAN (ZL) and ELDER ROGERS @ MTC
ELDER ROGERS & BROTHER JOSEPH @ THE JS BUILDING!

3/13/2011 Three Month Mark--really?

What seems like a short time to Koltn seems like an very long time for us back here in AZ!
I can't believe it time has flown. ya i remember Klete leaving on St. Patty's day. That's actually the first thing i thought of when i realized it was coming up.  Can you believe i will have been gone for 3 months on the 15'th! Wow time is going fast!
Man i would give anything to have a dry 80 or 90 degree day! If there is one thing i have learned out here it is that i know where i want to live when i get older. Not out here..... Super cold and humid in the winter then Super hot and humid in the summer. Oh then it rains out of no where then the wind blows like crazy! I would love some good old dry heat!

And unlike the rest of the world!!! AZ doesn't feel it necessary to change time zones to Daylight savings.... but in Chesapeake here's what its :
It was weird doing the whole time change too. I was soooooo tired on Sunday But we got to here form Elder Jensen from the 70. His talk was Really awesome. I finally got use to how the day was getting and now when i wake up it is dark out (it was light out at 630 before).
and the work progresses slowly!
We have taught lessons to a bunch of less actives and a few investigators. That's whats going on. Nothing new is going on just casing our tails trying to find people. thats why there are no updates. Because there isn't anything new. Me and Elder Buse are good for the most part nothing big we get along just fine. We eat well people feed us a few times a week so it is nice.
The needs of a missionary are few... but important!
If you send music try and get the "Single's Ward" and "The RM" sountracts. If you cant i don't really need anything.    The clothes are fine nothing sense that rip the first day out here.

In Elder Rogers Neighborhood, things are a little comical too!
PS There was a sign outside of a baptist Church that said " WALMART ISN'T THE ONLY PLACE THAT SAVES!" Me and Elder Beus Couldn't stop laughing. It was awesome! There is a different church on every corner out here, and i mean every corner!
EBONICS!!
PSS The people talk so weird out here. They have a southern Ebonics that is soooo funny sometimes. EX. anything that is said with a st like straight or strawberry or street. they use a "k" instead like, "I went sKraight up the sKreet and  disKributed some sKrawberries!" It is soooo funny

I love you all And can't believe how big the kids are getting! They are all HUGE!!!!
Anyways i love yall and and miss you a ton! See you later.

2/28/2011 the Tall and Short of it......

Hi there family and friends!!
The first day I have used a short sleeve shirt is today.  The weather is crazy out here!!!!!!!!!.  It went from freezing to hot then from snow to warm rain and today it is 81 and tomorrow it is 53.  there is no telling what your going to get when you walk outside.  I went from a huge jacket yesterday to a short sleeve shirt today!
Last week it was warmer in VA than it was in AZ- go figure that one out!
Mom--Our apartment is clean.... well as clean as it can be.  the Deep Creek apartment is the 2nd oldest in the mission... let's just say it is a little run down.  The carpet... well it used to be white at one point now it is more of a tan with black and brown spots ranging from all sizes and shaptes.  The "best" part is the up stairs. EVERY step on the stairs creeks.  And everywhere you walk on the 2nd floor it squeaks or creeks.....
(yes I did mention to Elder Rogers to be sure to keep his room clean...
does a Mom ever stop asking for that??)
FYI-So I got to the apartment my first week and sat in my study chair 2 times.  The 3rd time I sat in it, it broke into 3 pieces.  Now this wasn't just an old wooden chair.  It was a nice folding chair that was padded.  I was later informed that the Elder that was here before me leaned back in his chair all the time, so the past month I've been sitting on an old raggedy coffee table to study!  its way low.... are you getting the picture?
(Okay Okay, another mom thing...
I have asked several times about his apartment so I am finally getting some feedback!
I think I got the picture....
good thing Elder Rogers knows how to improvise.... HA!)
Elder Rogers has a new companion.
Elder Beus from Boise Idaho--(nearby town called Kuna).
Koltn says:
He is 6 foot 8...... ye that's right 6 foot 8!!!!
It is crazy
I feel like a midget, but he is super cool!
We get along great and getting better and better at teaching together.  He likes the same football teams as me and has a lot of the same interests. He is from Boise Idaho.
(well a close by there is a town called Kuna)
He grew up on a farm and raises dairy cows.
He was a basketball player.... well of course he was!
Koltn also say:
So the "Experience of the Week"
Elder Beus is so tall that he has a special bike.
He calls it the Clydesdale.
Well his back tire was waaaaayyy bent up so it was hard to ride.  So the wind was blowing like 37 mph that day.  It made bike riding so miserable....  We were like 15 min away from the apartment and all of a sudden one of his spokes on the wheel poked through and popped his tire!  It sounded like a gunshot and we were in a ghetto part of the area so I got scared that my comp just got shot!  I turned around and he was smiling and said, oh well...... So we started the walk back and I told him that we were going to have to put the "old Clydesdale" down because it has lame leg!
So we have been hoofing it (no pun intended) since Friday morning and it really has narrowed our tracting down.  But we are still doing lots of work here in "Elder Rogers Neighborhood".
It's good to hear Elder Rogers hasn't lost his sense of humor.
Sorry for the generic pictures.  It would be nice to get a few pictures from mission land, but alas.... none have arrived!  All the images I have are the ones I make up in my own head!
Elder Rogers Says:  Love to all Y'all from down here in Dixieland.
Miss Y'all too!
I wear the suit, the book is blue, and the church IS TRUE!

2/22/2011 Transfers and Danger!

Yep, transfers are this week!
I'm staying here in Deep Creek but Elder Logan is headed out.  He got called to be a Zone Leader.  I don't know anything about my new companion but I'll be finding out on Thursday.
(I imagine transfers can be a little exciting.  New area? New companion?
but also a little scary- new area, new companion!)
It was warm last week but it was a fluke! Today the high is back in the 40's and the cold wind is blowing like crazy.  Brrrrr.  I still miss AZ.  Forecast for snow tonight and maybe tomorrow.  I would kill for some light, luke-warm, rain... like back home.  People are getting sick all over the place because it got warm and then cold.
( kinda like what we've experienced in AZ except the high is not in the 40's)
FYI- they closed one of our favorite neighborhoods because it is getting too dangerous!
(um.... not something I like to hear! this is what I envision.....
Please say a few protection prayers for our missionaries!)
I can't believe it either.  We had 2 very good investigators who were really progressing in there.
Now we can't visit them, I hope we haven't lost them.
(That's gotta be disappointing)
You asked for some good news:  idk, right now we are in a weird stage with the transfers and the baptisms so we are just rebuilding our teaching pools.
(Not quite sure this is the kind of pool he is referring to-HA!)
But I love tracting and finding new people.
(that's my boy!  always a positive attitude and such a hard worker)
Tell everyone I said hello and that I love them all.  Its good to hear people still remember who I am.
Love you all!  Miss you all,  and remember
GOD is a MORMON!  Trust me... I know!
