Mendy A. Cooper Tanner July 18 at 2:39pm Report
Hi Bobbi,
Elder Rogers is in our ward Newport New 2nd. Heard he has a b-day on Friday and that you want to do something special for him. Let me know if we can do something for you. Tell us what he likes and maybe will pick him up something. My son Nate is in England on a mission and he will be 20 on Wednesday. So we would be glad to help.
Elder Rogers and his companion ate dinner at our house last night. We feed them homemade enchiladas. For dessert we made orange flan. We had never mad it before and wanted to try it.

Mendy- (cute name!) OH MY HEAVENS!!! So wonderful to get your message. Yes Koltn's BDay is on Friday. I was feeling a little sad for him being in a new area with a new companion for his BDay, so you have really made my day!!! It is very nice to know someone who is willing to put their arms around our missionary! We have been doing the 12 days of "Birthday" and just found out today that we had his address a little messed up and he has only gotten 3 of the 10 packages we sent..... They weren't anything big just a little something to let him know we were thinking about him. Thankfully, we got his correct address this am. and I will be mailing his big present tomorrow.

It is so nice of you to offer to do something for him. I was wondering about getting him some cupcakes/or maybe even an ice cream cake delivered to him. Maybe you can tell me where I could place an order. A Local bakery or ice cream shop? Maybe I could even have it delivered to you to deliver to him so it doesn't melt in the weather?

... and Oh my heavenly stars again! Your son is in England? I am sure that Koltn has told you I was born in England and travel back whenever I can. I am planning another trip in Sept. Where is your son? We are traveling all over England up through Scotland and over to Dublin. I am sure we could make it a point to catch up with him. : )

Sounds like you fixed a wonderful meal for the Mish's. Koltn's favorite food is Mexican. His loves homemade taco and enchiladas so I am sure he appreciated every bite!

my email address is johnbobbirogers@msn.com would love to keep in touch. Let me know if you have any cupcake/ice cream cake ideas!

Thanks so much
and give our Mish a big hug (or handshake) from his family back home.
We sure do miss that guy!

7/11/2011 OPEN for BUSINESS!!

So it RAINED on Thursday.... I mean RAINED!!!!! each time a big storm comes in i am amazed about how much water falls. This is the worst one so far. It turned the courtyard into a lake and the roads into rivers!!!
The car (I drive) is a Mazda 3 (girlie car) and I don't like it because you don't get to talk to anyone on the streets.  We just whiz by. So we drive to far areas and bike to everything close by. Yep i am the designated driver. Elder Swanson gets to catch some zzz while i drive around-haha   Elder Swanson is working hard, things can get pretty stressful but it's all good.!!  Yes Elder Price is my Zone Leader. I actually know him pretty well.

The military branch is Awesome. We had 19 solders there! that's the most there has been in 9 months! we are going to TRY to teach 4 of the guys. It is hard because Ft. Eustis is a training base so the soldiers have no time to get together with us. But we are trying none the less. There is a soldier who is a member and a returned missionary who is helping out so much! He really loves God and The Church so he bends over backwards to help us and the Elkins. The Elkins are a great senior missionary couple who is in my district. They are over the military base. By the way they have a blog with some pictures on it.
It is:elkinsmission.blogspot.com check it out. They are awesome!

OH! There are 4 guys from AZ and 2 from mesa. One of their names is KIRBY (last name) and his mom teach Spanish and is the coach over swimming @ mesa high!! He knowes a lot of the same people as me. He is a few years older but i went on a date with one of his friends! SMALL WORLD!
Yep almost 20 can you believe it. YOU and dad wont have any more teenagers! HAHA
"Oh remember remember, the church is true, the booketh be blue, and the God of Israel Is a Mor... (oops cant say mormon any more after pres packer's talk)a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!"

PS.......98 degrees with 96% humidity...... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the Elkins Blog:
Elder S is our new "greenie", being here about 10 days.  Elder R is the District Leader and they are assigned to our Ft. Eustis group, as well as the Newport News 2nd Ward.  It is frustrating to introduce them to all of the wonderful non-member soldiers who attend and not have the ability to provide teaching opportunities very often because of the soldiers' busy schedules.  This is the building where we hold services on Sunday, and FHE on Tuesdays.  There aren't very many LDS church buildings with a neon "open" sign.

Good VS Bad... you decide

Internet a bad thing?  I beg to differ.
I must say how lucky I feel I am to have the internet.  It grants us opportunities to "chat" or maybe even "meet" people we would have never had the opportunity to meet.
I must say a personal thank you to the "G" Family who took our missionary under their wings while he was serving in Chesepeake area.  He mentioned this family many times and I was finally able to put a picture to the faces he talked about.
Wonderful Wonderful family!
My heart-filled thanks!
This is what Sister G messaged me on FB.
It does a mothers heart good to know her son is loved elsewhere.
The very same day I received another email .....
This time it was from a Sister who LIVES in the area
our Mish is transferring to.
What a wonderful surprise it was.
I feel somehow more connected ♥♥
I say....
Thank you internet for granting me the opportunity
to communicate with those who my son has had contact.
Somehow if makes the distance seem shorter
and the world a little smaller!

EVERYTHING NEW!

Hello Rogers Family!!!  Happy 4th of July! (really the 5th)

   Things are good here at:
   Cypress 47 Terrace apt.D
   Newport News, VA 23608

New area (Newport News 2nd ward) new everything. So this ward just baptized a person and there are NO investigators right now...none... We (Me and Elder Swanson) are starting from scratch. Well not scratch but close to it. A lot of tracting and meeting new people. There is a Military base in our area called Ft. Eustis. That's right we cover a military base! No tracting but we still teach people there and do special family home evenings. Our companionship actually splits up and one of us goes to the base and one goes to the normal ward. I think i am going to take the base. That way he has a lot of members and i can help the senior couple (elder and sister Elkins, In my district) They said they like my drive and with there help we are going to change some things and make it more missionary minded.

The bishopric is changing on the 16th. That's right a new bishopric in the ward. EVERYTHING IS NEW! hahaha

Well we are in a car. It is totally weird! I miss being on a bike a little. But then i step out in the heat and remember how much of a blessing a car is.

Elder Swanson played football and is a lot like me! It is cool having a comp that has the same interests. You can tell he is new but he is doing good. Esp. for being in this area for this to be his 1st area.

Our apartment is nice! Super glad about that. we live in a little complex that is ok Well at least i thought it was ok until 2 days ago. well let me tell you why i THOUGHT it was ok.

Sooooo you know how my bike got stolen..... Well the GPS i bought out here..... Yep it got stolen too... We parked outside our door (We live up stairs) and we ran up to drop something off inside and within 30-60 sec. someone opened the door stole the GPS the stand and the charger and left. At least the didn't take the car i guess. But now it is all by a good old map.

So the 4th was different out here. We had a HUGE thunderstorm and ALL the fireworks where canceled. But Bishop took us out for ice cream.

Happy B-day Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry with how crazy this last week has been i didn't get the mail off but it will be coming soon. Hope yo had a good B-Day. Can you believe i am going to be 20??? Any who. Thanks for all you have done for me. Love you a whole bunch. Thanks for the help you have given with everything

Love and miss you all. Your in my prayers.
Help The Missionaries!!!!!
And remember "Prove all things!" (that's what peter said in Thessalonians 5:22) that means Check out all things by prayer and the Holy Ghost!

   Talk to you later!!!
